WORKSHOP: Hands On (2019/20)

Semester I: 9 -14 September, 2019

Hands On - Production

with Prof. Apolonija Šušteršič - Kunstfag Grupperom 2

The HANDS ON workshop explores how can artists contribute to a public discussion within a specific subject matter, wich can be rethought and produced through performative methodologies and critical representation. We will explore and map how the public sphere is performed and lived through observation and direct action. We will use performative methods to make productive disruptions or ‘constructed situations’ that tell us more about so-called ‘public spaces’, public sphere, public debate, public action. Together we will produce and test prototypes for small scale proposition(s) that combine these performative methodologies with critical representation. Located in-between different research actions, these ‘tools’ will either facilitate an alternative publicness or critique existing situation, opening up ideas and discussions around production.

Introducing questions
What is the subject matter and how can artists respond to it? Can we activate public through an art/spatial project? How to produce the awareness in public sphere pointing at that specific subject matter taking into account the overwhelming and extremely large field of reasech? Where to start?
