NB! This is not a portfolio, not in its entirety, no!. This is not an image gallery? This may be a journal, a personal one—a compilation of artistic traces, personal experiences, actions, and gestural archival methods. This is definitely not documentation, at least not 'that' kind, at least not all of it. This is not a snapshot either, rather a compilation and collage of visual-'frozen' artistic traces and experiences (yet to be re-activated).

Thus, documentation here means something 'else': unfreezing (and reheating) those traces and moments by introducing an event within another (the present time of the event and its process chain as documentation-means in itself)—wanting to engage in active conversation with the participants, artist(s), passersby, neighbors, and city-dwellers.

Tracing Yellow Series

“Tracing yellow” is a series of three experimental, small-scale and participatory art projects developed in the city of Oslo. The projects attempt to chase and explore the color «yellow» as a symbolic sphere of togetherness from a perspective of cultural-specificity. I am especially interested in how we use our bodies to interact with strangers across cultures. I am seeking new strategies to challenge the automatic choreography of our everyday life. With social baits —small gestures— I introduce unexpected situations and temporary experiments in public spaces which revolve around issues of cultural identity, urban myths, city rituals and social behaviors.

«A work of art can operate as its own institution and as such is independent of specific art institutions”
Stephen Willats, Art and Social Function (1976)

I'm an independent visual artist, libertarian socialist, creative laborer, outreach activist, community arts organizer, and a public dance enthusiast with Peruvian-Palestinian roots. My practice explores the intersections of community networks, performativity theories, collective domesticity, and life practices of interhuman sociality in public space.

I tailor performative art experiences on creative-civil engagement for a diversity of individuals, and I seek to transform foundational values in art, governance, and society. At times, through relational and semi-guided participatory interventions in public space, I ask, “How can we radically reframe our institutions, our political, sociological, and artistic frameworks?"

My artistry is rooted in the collective and counter-publics, which aim at establishing localized spaces to "withdraw" from the dominant public sphere and mainstream art field. Focusing on institutional disruption whilst trying to envision new forms of collective organization and critical content within the arts. In 2016, I decided to stop taking part in traditional exhibit platforms to showcase my work. Since then, I have not shown my work in 'formal' art institutions, I rather activate the public space as one possible arena for my ideas and projects to engage with passers-by and city dwellers.

Early in 2020, I co-initiated the national grassroots initiative Non-European Artists Based in Norway Mutual Support Group. I'm also the Co-Founder of The Union and Founder of the indigenous-contemporary art center Machaqmara Center for the Arts. I have held previous positions in arts management and art production at OSLO PILOT, Ekebergparken, Oslo Biennial, and UKS (Young Artists' Society). I received an MFA Art and Public Space from Kunsthøgskolen I Oslo and a BFA with a major in Sculpture from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.

I believe in self-organized utopias!
