Nicolas William Hughes has a back ground in photography and video, with a BA(hons) in Photographic Art from University of Wales, Newport and an MA in Contemporary Dialogues, (specializing in lens based media) from Swansea Metropolitan University. Hughes practice has developed to a portfolio of varying mediums including creating works of performance; social interaction based works and works created with new technologies. His research-based practice explores the complex discussion of man’s place as part of nature, exploring parallels and/or differences between nature and contemporary society. Hughes frequently uses absurdity as an artistic tool, adding humor to his works, which can both mirror and/or counter the seriousness of topics that the works explore.
Hughes’ Masters project is an extension of his ongoing research into mans relationship with nature. Hughes aims to pose questions surrounding specific aspects found within our contemporary connection and to nature and what that could be in the future.
